Me
Laura - Candombe Design

My name is Laura Plini. I was born in Buenos Aires and studied Graphic Design in Bellas Artes (School of Fine Arts).

My curiosity for new experiences led me to travel and I landed in Madrid ready to explore Europe. I lived in Spain for four years and loved everything about it.

After a while I decided to move on to a new place and I came to Sydney. I’ve been happily living and working in Australia for almost five years.

Achievements

I won one of the six Icograda scholarships to attend Mousharaka Design Week in Qatar. It was a fantastic learning opportunity and you can read more about my experience here or browse my pictures of the trip on my Flickr.

What is Candombe?

Candombe is an African word. There is some debate about its meaning, but one of them is "belonging to the black people".

Candombe is a drum-based musical style from Uruguay, originating in the middle of the 18th century and was created by African people brought to Uruguay as slaves. It’s an inspiring music and a colourful experience.

This music is part of my childhood memories, as my grandma used to sing these songs to me. If you're interested you can find more information about Candombe here.
